Hello Internet World…
Today, I'm embarking on a new adventure. My husband and I have decided to leave everything that we know and all of our family to move over 3000 miles across country to Seattle
Why you may ask…
This may sound strange… but… we just wanted to get away from it all… and… maybe … change the world.
We currently live in Winter Park, Florida and since my contract with Disney ended and I switched jobs, both of us have felt stuck. My husband has reached a plateau at work and I honestly am struggling with the 9-5 slump of staring into the computer. For many people this may work but for my wanderlust mind and need for a break from schedules, this isn’t working.
Also, with the recent events in our country currently -shout out to Hillary and Trump- we see a terrible shift coming our way. The environment is becoming less of a focus especially in states like my good old hometown where saying the phase “climate change” is illegal (now I haven’t tested if they will really throw you in jail for it but… I love my pretty face). My husband’s career change will give us the time and financial support for me to work part-time while spreading environmental education and news to the masses.
Interestingly enough, before we met 6 years ago we had both planned and applied to schools on the west coast: me to the University of Oregon and him to… cough… Stanford. Then we met and that kind of fell through. There is more to the story like family and stuff but this blog isn’t about that and I don’t want to bore you with the details.
Anyways….
Long hours of constantly bouncing ideas off of each other, we came to the decision of Seattle. Yes, it rains and can be gloomy, but that is one of the attractions. It is different. And right now with the way that our lives feel we need different (more on all of that later). Plus, being both engineers there are so many opportunities and the mentality of the area matches how we think. Go Introverts!
Since this is a huge change, I wanted to share with the world how I did it. Our lives are short, and there is no reason to stay doing the same thing and going along the same path if you aren’t happy. Besides, it is more fun to take an adventure with friends, even the virtual kind. So let's do this together as I move across country, figure out an entirely new city, and figure out myself along the way.
