15 Reasons I Love Seattle
I was reading online the other day that Seattle is called the ‘Emerald City’ like New York is called the ‘Big Apple’. The reference is due in part to the evergreen trees everywhere, so that no matter what time of year it is, the city is always green.
“We’re going to Seattle… Seattle… Seattle. We’re going to Seattle… to see what it will bring.” (Ok sorry for the Peter Pan reference. Though I’m sick of all things Disney, I am still a Disney girl at heart. )
Reasons to move to Seattle:
1. The city won’t be flooding anytime soon. A study was actually conducted – you can find it on the city's webpage – showing that in the next 50 years, a four-block radius will be the only area in threat of going under. This is a huge change from the fact that half of Florida is projected to be underwater.
And can I just point out how cool it is that the city actually did a study. Most of Florida’s government ignores the rising sea levels. They ignore it so much that groups in South Florida have considered making a new state so that they can start to address the issue.
2. The city will not feel a drought. I think it rains too much. Plus, if we can’t get any more from the ground we can just put up rain barrels and catch our water.
3. It is not illegal to say the phrase “Climate Change.”
4. The area is super dog-friendly for all of us who want to have our four-legged children and take them everywhere with us.
5. Being an introverted INFJ is not considered weird and the thing to do is not party till 2 am on a Saturday night.
6. There are so many parks I am not sure I will be able to visit them all.
7. Being able to find locally grown food is easy since Washington’s biggest export is agriculture.
8. If I ever feel like getting out of the country, I can drive the two hours and go to Canada.
9. The state overwhelmingly voted for Bernie in the 2016 Presidential Primaries.
10. I can get cold weather without the hassle of snow. And if we do get snow, the city is guaranteed to close so that I have no worries of driving in the snow.
11. We can be appreciated as engineers and get better taken care of since the city has strict rules on the benefits companies must offer.
12. Public transportation is going strong.
13. The majority of the electricity is hydroelectric with the gaps filled using wind, so if I forget to turn off that pesky lamp, I won’t feel like the worst person on the face of the planet.
14. Everyone now wants to visit me since I live in the ‘cool’ city.
15. My husband now has such a strong income that he can pay all the bills allowing me to only work part-time so that I can focus on Strive 4.
